3/26/25 The Crisis of Faith

Takeaway: Holding onto faith even when doubt creeps in.

“Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, ‘I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief !’” — Mark 9:24

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as I come before You today, I open my heart to Your presence. Quiet my doubts, strengthen my faith, and help me to trust You even when I don’t understand. Speak to me through Your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

There are moments in our journey of faith when doubt creeps in like an uninvited guest. We pray, we hope, and we believe—but then, something happens that shakes us. A prayer goes unanswered, suffering lingers, or God seems distant. In those moments, we find ourselves echoing the desperate plea of a father: “I believe; help my unbelief!”

This father had come to Jesus seeking healing for his son, who had been tormented by an evil spirit since childhood. He had likely tried everything—other healers, prayers, maybe even sacrifices—but nothing had worked. His hope was running on fumes. When he turned to Jesus, his words revealed a heart caught between faith and doubt. And yet, Jesus didn’t turn him away. He responded with power and grace, healing the child and proving that faith, even when mixed with doubt, is still faith.

We often think faith means having no doubts at all, but scripture shows us that faith is not the absence of doubt—it is trusting God even in the presence of doubt. The key is not pretending doubt doesn’t exist, but bringing it honestly before God.

If you find yourself in a season of doubt, take heart. God is not threatened by your questions, nor is He distant in your uncertainty. Bring your doubts to Him in prayer. Ask for His help. And trust that even the smallest seed of faith in Him is enough.

Question

How can you bring your doubts honestly before God today?

Application

• Acknowledge Your Doubts Honestly. Be honest with God about your doubts. Instead of suppressing them, bring them before Him in prayer.

• Seek God’s Presence in Your Struggles. Faith is not about having all the answers but about trusting God even when things don’t make sense.

• Surround Yourself with a Faith Community. Share your struggles with trusted believers who can encourage and pray for you.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I believe, but there are moments when my heart wavers. Help my unbelief. Meet me in my doubts and remind me that You are faithful even when I struggle. Strengthen my trust in You, and help me hold onto the hope that You are always working, even when I cannot see it. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
