3/4/25 Faith That Moves Mountains

Takeaway: Faith isn’t about how much we have but who we trust.

“Jesus said to them, ‘Because you have little faith. I say to you: if only you had faith the size of a mustard seed, you could tell that mountain to move from here to there, and the mountain would obey. Nothing would be impossible for you.’” — Matthew 17:20

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, as I enter this time of devotion, quiet my heart and open my mind to Your truth. Help me to set aside distractions and focus on Your presence. Speak to me through Your Word, strengthen my faith, and guide me in Your wisdom. May this time draw me closer to You and shape me to live according to Your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Have you ever stood at the foot of a mountain and felt overwhelmed by its size? Or stood on the beach and looked out over the ocean? Life can feel like that sometimes—massive, immovable obstacles looming before us. We wonder if we have enough strength or faith to persevere through. But Jesus reminds us that faith isn’t about quantity; it’s about trust. Even faith as small as a mustard seed—tiny and unassuming—is powerful when placed in the hands of an all-powerful God.

Think of Peter stepping out of the boat in the middle of a storm. It wasn’t his faith that kept him afloat—it was Jesus. The moment Peter took his eyes off the Lord, he began to sink (Matthew 14:30). The same is true for us. When our faith wavers, it’s often because we’re measuring our own ability instead of trusting in God’s. The good news is, even when we struggle, Jesus reaches out to steady us.

Mountains represent the impossible, the overwhelming, the things we cannot move on our own. But Jesus assures us that when our faith is placed in Him, even the smallest trust can bring about the greatest miracles. God is the One who moves mountains—we are simply called to believe.

Question

What “mountain” are you facing right now that feels impossible to move?

Application

• Shift Your Focus from Yourself to God. When facing challenges, remind yourself that faith isn’t about your own strength or ability but about trusting God.

• Take Small Steps of Faith. Sometimes we need to take a step before seeing the full picture. Let go of fear, trust that even a small act of faith can lead to great results.

• Speak God’s Promises Over Your Life. Jesus said that faith can move mountains, so declare God’s promises over your challenges. (Matthew 17:20, Philippians 4:13, Isaiah 41:10)

Closing Prayer

Lord, I confess that sometimes I feel like my faith is too small. But today, I choose to trust not in the size of my faith, but in the greatness of who You are. You are the One who moves mountains, and nothing is impossible for You. Strengthen my heart to believe, even when I cannot see the way forward. Amen.
