4/05/25 The Silence of Saturday

Takeaway: What do we do when we’re stuck between loss and resurrection?

“‘Otherwise, his disciples may come and steal the body and tell the people that he has been raised from the dead. This last deception will be worse than the first.’” — Matthew 27:64

Opening Prayer

Heavenly Father, I come before You with an open heart, seeking Your presence in this time of devotion. Still my mind, quiet my worries, and draw me closer to You. Speak to me through Your Word, and help me to listen with faith, even when You seem silent. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Reflection

Saturday is the day no one talks about. We focus on the grief of Good Friday and the triumph of Easter Sunday, but what about the day in between? On Saturday, the disciples were suspended between loss and resurrection. Jesus was dead. The promises He had made seemed distant, and the world felt unbearably silent. What do we do when we find ourselves in our own Saturday—when we are stuck between sorrow and hope, when God seems quiet, distant and the outcome is unclear?

The silence of Saturday teaches us to wait. It is a waiting that is not passive but expectant. The disciples didn’t yet know the full plan, but God was still at work. Jesus’ death was not the end of the story, even though it may have felt that way.

In our own seasons of waiting—when prayers seem unanswered, when hope feels distant—we are called to trust that God is still moving. The silence does not mean God is absent. The tomb was sealed, but resurrection was coming. The disciples couldn’t see it yet, but Sunday was already written into God’s plan.

Question

How can you practice faith in the waiting, even when you don’t see the outcome?

Application

• Practice Active Patience. Waiting on God is not passive. Use this time to pray, reflect, and grow spiritually rather than becoming discouraged.

• Strengthen Your Prayer Life. Even when God feels silent, continue praying. Like the disciples, stay close to God in moments of uncertainty.

• Embrace the Silence as Growth. Use seasons of silence to deepen your faith, much like a seed growing underground before breaking through the surface.

Closing Prayer

God of the in-between, in the silence of Saturday, help me trust that You are still at work. When I feel stuck between sorrow and hope, remind me that resurrection is coming. Give me patience to wait, faith to trust, and hope to hold on. Amen.
