4/25/25 Renewing Your First Love

Takeaway: Committing to pursue Christ wholeheartedly.

“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” — Jeremiah 29:13

Opening Prayer (Friday)

God, as this week comes to a close, I ask for endurance to finish strong. Keep my heart steadfast, my mind focused on You, and my spirit at peace in Your presence. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Reflection

Think back to when you first encountered Jesus in a personal way. Do you remember the joy, the passion, the eagerness to know Him more? That first love for Christ often burns brightly at the beginning of our journey, yet over time, distractions, trials, and the weight of daily life can cause it to dim. We may still believe, still pray, still attend church, but something feels different—less alive, less vibrant. What happened? And how do we renew that love again?

Jeremiah 29:13 holds a powerful promise: if we seek God with all our heart, we will find Him. This verse is an invitation, reminding us that God has not moved away—we just need to seek Him with our whole heart. Just like every relationship requiring intentional pursuit, so does our relationship with Christ. Renewing our first love means wanting to see Him with our whole heart.

When God spoke these words through Jeremiah, He was addressing the Israelites in exile. They were far from home, discouraged, and perhaps feeling abandoned. Yet God’s message was clear: If you truly seek Me, you will find Me. Their circumstances did not define their ability to encounter God—what mattered was the posture of their hearts.

The same is true for us. Half-hearted pursuit leads to half-hearted faith. When we compartmentalize our relationship with God—giving Him Sunday mornings but not our Mondays, offering Him our problems but not our joys—we fail to experience the fullness of His presence. Jesus calls us to love Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:30). Renewing our first love requires realigning our entire lives to pursue Him first and foremost.

Question

What distractions or struggles have drawn your heart away from Christ?

Application

• Seeking God in Prayer. Honest, passionate, and consistent prayer renews intimacy with God. If your prayers have become stale, try journaling them, or praying Scripture.

• Immerse Yourself in God’s Word. When we delight in Scripture, we rediscover the heart of God. Read it not just for knowledge but for transformation.

• Worship with Fresh Expectation. Engage in worship with a heart that longs to know Him, rather than just going through the motions.

Closing Prayer

Lord, I confess that my love for You has grown dim at times. I have allowed distractions, worries, and complacency to take priority over my pursuit of You. But today, I recommit my heart to You. Stir within me a fresh passion for Your presence. Help me seek You with all my heart, knowing that when I do, I will find You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
